Doesn't sound like much fun but this is how we decided to spend our July 4th Holiday Weekend. The weekend started out not much different than any other weekend, we went to an Antique thing (which I have to tell you about) and then Home Depot. Home Depot had a sale on Landscape Timbers for almost 50% off. This gave us the bright idea to build a retaining wall behind our home and we must buy 30 of these timbers immediately. After working two days in the hot hot sun and sitting in the dirt, the bachelor says "it's a shame you don't have a blog to write about this...." <br />
<br />
I guess that's the little push I needed to try this whole blog thing again..... Looking at them, smelling them just makes me happy. It Also makes any room look good. Currently our house is filled with flowers. Somehow I have managed to convince the bachelor that they make the house look nice. Now when he goes to the grocery store, he always picks up a bunch. For Valentines Day he got me a mix of roses and carnations, they were gorgeous. The roses have since died but carnations last forever. I have cut the carnations down for their own display on our coffee table. <br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/03/01/1156.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/03/01/s_1156.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />This is so girly... I would like to know who are these lucky people that have so much space. I have never had a place so fortunate. My biggest problem is having enough storage, a place to store that extra roll of toilet paper. To be honest, we don't even have enough space for a nice cabinet. My only option is to go up. So I had the bachelor build us a shelf above the door. I put them in both of our full baths. I used cute containers to organize all of our stuff. <br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/02/27/1773.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/02/27/s_1773.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />This is from our bathroom. I know the lighting is bad, I am still working on the bachelor for the project. <br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/02/27/1774.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/02/27/s_1774.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />This is from our guest bath. I unwrapped a bunch of soap, this keeps an extra fresh smell in the bathrooms.<br /><br />I bought a standard shelf and wood brackets from home depot, cut them to size, and them painted them to match our trim.<br /><br />The downside is only the bachelor can reach the shelf... <br />The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-48831698284405273852011-12-31T11:47:00.001-05:002011-12-31T11:47:40.498-05:00FINALLY....On our way to Key West!<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=11/12/31/1562.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/11/12/31/s_1562.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Happy New Years Eve!<br />The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-5913955604989193382011-12-30T21:13:00.000-05:002011-12-30T21:17:42.241-05:00Happy New Year's Eve!I love New Years and this year is no different. For the last few years the bachelor and I have been going to Key West with a couple of our good friends BUT if I wasn't going to Key West, I would love to host a party at our house. If you cannot tell already, I am all for decorating the home for any holiday. Maybe hang a cool banner like this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--OX3i9nID0Q/Tv5tPOvDoXI/AAAAAAAAAP0/hW0EBVUHOpw/s1600/Happy+New+Years+Banner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" rea="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--OX3i9nID0Q/Tv5tPOvDoXI/AAAAAAAAAP0/hW0EBVUHOpw/s320/Happy+New+Years+Banner.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Or jazz up the table a bit. This would be cute, you could use some of your Christmas decoations.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wZzogBbntto/Tv5t59IlcEI/AAAAAAAAAQA/pU8kKiLgvHQ/s1600/Bulb+Centerpiece.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wZzogBbntto/Tv5t59IlcEI/AAAAAAAAAQA/pU8kKiLgvHQ/s320/Bulb+Centerpiece.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>
<br />
Or what about this table, love the clocks so you always have a count down to midnight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9tabRdxGQ5Y/Tv5uSkswg-I/AAAAAAAAAQM/sA7MtqGUngw/s1600/Table+with+clocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9tabRdxGQ5Y/Tv5uSkswg-I/AAAAAAAAAQM/sA7MtqGUngw/s1600/Table+with+clocks.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="left">
What about doing some party favors. I know you haven't had these since elementary school, but I think they can be for adults too!</div>
<div align="left">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w-VedSYvWws/Tv5u1PNE4FI/AAAAAAAAAQY/01aFKmcMYwo/s1600/Party+Favors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w-VedSYvWws/Tv5u1PNE4FI/AAAAAAAAAQY/01aFKmcMYwo/s320/Party+Favors.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="left">
So all of these pictures came from people at <a href="http://www.pinterst.com/">Pinterest</a> and obviously, they are way more creative than me. </div>The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-23634822954478964662011-12-23T11:42:00.001-05:002011-12-23T11:43:14.865-05:00New Cigar TableSo... You know how much I LOVE One Kings Lane. Well I just got a new cigar table from them and I love it. It was exactly what I had been looking for. I think when you have people over, every person should have a place to put their drink. You can pick it up and move around anywhere you want. It is goldleaf with an antiqued mirrored top. <br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=11/12/23/1371.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/11/12/23/s_1371.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=11/12/23/1372.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/11/12/23/s_1372.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=11/12/23/1373.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/11/12/23/s_1373.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Love it! Of course, I realize that I may be slightly behind the bandwagon on this but I don't care. The most recent project that we did, I had stolen from <a href="http://www.thehandmadehome.net/">the handmade home</a>. If you have never checked her out, you should. I originally saw her on Nate Berkus, that's how good she is. <br /><br />So, we had this totally blah area in front of our kitchen and I remember seeing what she did in her kitchen. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDwi9n01d3E87fJmj9v-XlT0zRFsZM1NowYaaiCIufWFClIhkVlPZmsDUMq02nZ4MFHEGaUpWUdunJB5OZHT9wZphEjTUvgq15sBR1uwUksm_Zfqz1x7U0UqPWGfTIFo4m7XxCM98X1UQ/s1600/Picture+057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDwi9n01d3E87fJmj9v-XlT0zRFsZM1NowYaaiCIufWFClIhkVlPZmsDUMq02nZ4MFHEGaUpWUdunJB5OZHT9wZphEjTUvgq15sBR1uwUksm_Zfqz1x7U0UqPWGfTIFo4m7XxCM98X1UQ/s320/Picture+057.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />I taped out the area that I wanted to use as the chalkboard with Frog Tape. (FYI this stuff is the best!) As you can tell, we have a lovely receptacle right in the middle of our chalkboard. We changed this to black and I spray painted the cover plate with chalkboard. For the wall, I brushed on the chalkboard paint. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj85hLD2Nct5TJDn6-OgW5XisgOypXxiMj8pD8WCHIXyNzVS5IYR8Oz6gjow6qxDOEAbI2ffFLdkXWYCJXDj9eziOWbmCBrCWOt3gmryZniaJke7P_Hrj3t3zlpXFNA1g95RmoMcXQaOEY/s1600/Picture+058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj85hLD2Nct5TJDn6-OgW5XisgOypXxiMj8pD8WCHIXyNzVS5IYR8Oz6gjow6qxDOEAbI2ffFLdkXWYCJXDj9eziOWbmCBrCWOt3gmryZniaJke7P_Hrj3t3zlpXFNA1g95RmoMcXQaOEY/s320/Picture+058.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />I tend to be overly excited about completing the project at hand that I typically forget some very important steps. i.e. protect your boyfriends floor. Of course, I didn't do this and I had splattered paint all of over the floor. Luckily he was busy doing something else and never even noticed. <br /><br />We added trim around the chalkboard to make a frame. I didn't bother to take off the tape, just put the frame right over it. I painted the trim prior to installing. The boyfriend even used his new favorite tool, the Dremel, and carved an area on top for the chalk to rest. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMhGEaqYH9CeS9x9jDpBeTbiSIj4ZMZJYqYKdFB4FcAj-h7IwjLObGsu_UT7QqjpW28AnOW9FW2_Xce1ENcIaGkGvpa60dnPHkTZCD9_dBRKlSJNTfPxtrB_X4_RCBMzAB1x3lSgRASLs/s1600/Picture+059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMhGEaqYH9CeS9x9jDpBeTbiSIj4ZMZJYqYKdFB4FcAj-h7IwjLObGsu_UT7QqjpW28AnOW9FW2_Xce1ENcIaGkGvpa60dnPHkTZCD9_dBRKlSJNTfPxtrB_X4_RCBMzAB1x3lSgRASLs/s320/Picture+059.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAWN-pJZgbZV_6M_9FMJhdajxWe78LIw1pLP0LvYqb4FpQbdvLiFv6Fjp2du2JK9UjCnZjhI8BRnfDfEt7VUsE844pfZ4Wlu435hpOZI_n9vM-8gLS9Bpd9ix9BXTx8fS5w0T51bEODS4/s1600/Picture+062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAWN-pJZgbZV_6M_9FMJhdajxWe78LIw1pLP0LvYqb4FpQbdvLiFv6Fjp2du2JK9UjCnZjhI8BRnfDfEt7VUsE844pfZ4Wlu435hpOZI_n9vM-8gLS9Bpd9ix9BXTx8fS5w0T51bEODS4/s320/Picture+062.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />I think it looks nice especially with our new / old stools, which is a whole other story. It was my first time and if you have never been it is amazing. Annapolis has the most fabulous Christmas decorations too! All of the shops hang garland with lights and ribbons. The freezing temperatures really give that Christmas feel. HA! There are so many really wonderful boats in the parade. Here are a few of my favorites.<br />

These are just terrible. They have paint on them from the previous owners and I hate gold / brass whatever. I think the brass makes it look dated. Except we have brass on our front door and I love it. We have changed a lot of our door hardware in the house from old brass to Venetian Bronze. <strike>The Bachelor</strike> We haven't done the hinges yet so in the meantime, I have just painted them white. <br />

We wanted our Handrails to have hardware to match. Originally we were going to get the same style until we spotted these babies. I know the color is slightly different but you can't tell, the picture makes it look worse than it really is. </div>

None of the holes lined up or were covered by the hardware. We even had to patch the railing. We did one by one and eventually finished both of our railing's. <br />

Well when it comes to Christmas, I think MORE is MORE. The more decorations, the better, right? <br />
<br />
For example...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/mnk0KjWxgMA?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
I would ask the bachelor for something like this but right now, I will settle for this. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0_WwXYBf-x129BuQZNBp06i8NOL8IgAPY0P0nWLP44iNk_4iYaSVXj0jydBV4lqmOJbSaqn_VeeuBg7-vaxeQlh-xVVSk0SAGrWiTTqTsUbBrj8rLbgi3eCdwrdTvCVIQ3AokdL9yZRs/s1600/Picture+081.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0_WwXYBf-x129BuQZNBp06i8NOL8IgAPY0P0nWLP44iNk_4iYaSVXj0jydBV4lqmOJbSaqn_VeeuBg7-vaxeQlh-xVVSk0SAGrWiTTqTsUbBrj8rLbgi3eCdwrdTvCVIQ3AokdL9yZRs/s320/Picture+081.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
(We actually do have candles in the windows but I am missing one and I broke one the other night.)<br />
<br />
<br />The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-15972231111937271402011-12-05T07:56:00.001-05:002011-12-05T08:32:34.628-05:00Little BowsSo.... I only thought we were done with the Christmas decorations. The more and more that I looked at our Christmas Garland on our railings, the more I thought they were missing something. The railings just seemed so bare along the top. I mean, I had these great ornaments along the side but that was it. <br />
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uSXdqmwTu1PKOQXJaMxbl1Bs8ix4u0CUe1ztmMKgrbfUqAtaEtDsveBfT6kRN41mEKnf9zpMephd_DPRzVacg22-W571PikKF2YtLnr5J4HQDAGXzo6flK2a1Q2MI-aKDbzQw3VWCQo/s1600/Picture+070.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uSXdqmwTu1PKOQXJaMxbl1Bs8ix4u0CUe1ztmMKgrbfUqAtaEtDsveBfT6kRN41mEKnf9zpMephd_DPRzVacg22-W571PikKF2YtLnr5J4HQDAGXzo6flK2a1Q2MI-aKDbzQw3VWCQo/s320/Picture+070.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
Last year we had these clip on birds from the Home Depot but I had decided to not use them this year. The more and more that I looked at those, the more cheap they started to look. (Now the bachelor doesn't want me looking at anything for more than 5 seconds now.) Needless to say, I decided that the birds wouldn't be nesting on our Christmas garland this year but that they would stay residents in the attic. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since I thought the bow that I had made for the burlap wreath was fabulous (check that out <a href="http://bachelorpadreno.blogspot.com/2011/11/burlap-wreath.html">here</a>), I decided we would make some bows. I can only say fabulous because I have never ever made a bow in my entire life. I had to Google, "How to make a bow." Now, after about 50 attempts to make the bow on the wreath, I felt I had a pretty good one. So we were making bows for the garland. <br />
<br />
As a side note, we use to have bows on our Christmas tree when I was a kid and they were terrible. I still remember putting those things on. I also remember the exact moment we decided to bag those bows and never put them on again. Keeping my fingers crossed that I like these bows. <br />
<br />
So the bachelor picked out the ribbon. Let me just say.... I am so proud! How cute is this ribbon. I just love it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBQBaykbh6SAPTqT5hh7PRhT_O1u95WWqtgIlLFbVqTbdKQu62kfgr9rKHMe6ZUHYyZXQqymPbHncVmu4FAU4_dxnCKYbvtZyTwfHiwG_zKCFRnzfhwP3yjDXGld4-29l3MjB-E8OvcJ0/s1600/Ribbon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBQBaykbh6SAPTqT5hh7PRhT_O1u95WWqtgIlLFbVqTbdKQu62kfgr9rKHMe6ZUHYyZXQqymPbHncVmu4FAU4_dxnCKYbvtZyTwfHiwG_zKCFRnzfhwP3yjDXGld4-29l3MjB-E8OvcJ0/s320/Ribbon.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So after several attempts at making each bow, we had about 10 bows in this ribbon. I used some of the ribbon that I had for the wreath for the garland upstairs. <br />

I had used twine to complete the bow and tie them on to the garland. Next time, I think I would use green pipe cleaners. So let me know what you think. </div>The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-63114198122985067482011-12-01T08:13:00.001-05:002011-12-01T10:36:03.216-05:00Christmas has arrived at the Bachelor PadSo... I finally was able to get up all of our Christmas decorations. It took awhile but we are done.<br />

<br />
Every year I tend to buy a few more ornaments but when my boyfriend started to unload the attic I noticed an unfamiliar box in the <i>pile</i> of boxes. I opened it up and to my surprise inside were all of these cute antique ornaments. They had belonged to his grandmother. Some of them even had tin foil on the top, evidence of a home repair. This reminded me of that show "Storage Wars", I felt like I had just hit the jackpot, almost. <br />
<br />
I am pretty sure my boyfriend is still exhausted from going up and down from the attic, I know I am!<br />
<br />
BTW - There are cinnamon scented pine cones at the various arts and crafts stores... smells so delicious. We have them all over our house. <br />
<br />

At the time, I just really thought it was pretty and had some cool colors. When I went to get it framed, they new immediately who it was.... Alphonse Mucha. I am totally in love with his work now. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This was the poster that I got but this totally does not do any justice to the colors. The colors are so bright. I love it. Here it is framed. It's awesome. BTW, in case you can't tell, it is huge! A little bigger than I had anticipated but it is great. <br />

So we did so much work this weekend after Thanksgiving. Getting most of the Christmas decorations up and starting some projects. The key word here though is starting, we totally didn't finish anything. I was hoping to have something good to share after the long weekend and nothing. Nope, nothing, nada! Sorry. I am going to work super hard this evening to hopefully have something for you in the morning.The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-79191024679560394032011-11-22T08:10:00.000-05:002011-11-22T08:22:29.726-05:00What are you thankful for?<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">

I love this time of year, where you are just getting into the Holiday Season. Truly it is the only way I can enjoy cold weather. (Even though its 60 today, sweet) I love Thanksgiving. I love the food, the pumpkin pie, and most importantly being around family. I love the decorations for Thanksgiving also but personally I rarely decorate for Thanksgiving because we are just so rushed into Christmas. How many people did you see putting up their Christmas decorations last week and of course the Christmas music is already on the radio. It is as if Thanksgiving is just a dress rehearsal for Christmas. So for the next four days, let's forget about Christmas and remember to be thankful. <br />
<br />
If I did decorate for Thanksgiving, I would really want my table to look like some of these. Without any food, these tables still make me drool. <br />

I think these stencil's from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/search/handmade?q=Wall+Stencil&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US">Etsy</a> are super cute. <br />

It is going to take me a lot of motivation to try one of these so it might be awhile before I ever post on this again. <br />
<br />
Happy Friday!The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-29960837886172473392011-11-17T08:02:00.001-05:002011-11-17T08:53:12.276-05:00Burlap WreathI was looking around for cute ideas for making wreaths this Christmas because let's be honest, wreaths can be pretty pricey. So... while I was looking on the internet and at the craft stores, I decided I wanted to make a wreath using fabric. My initial thought was to use linen because it has some texture but when I was walking around the Craft Store, I found some really cool burlap that I thought would work. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDyzauKWT6SyNJn-Tp6jxmU1dqK77_VBpjp6RHEn301iG_KJ8lMznKSRSQmpvgpjFNEJoxY1AJTEjmPJuC1iB6ANBrIz_iiX3eT9He57ZpQmhHIatygtejMJc35TkEdP3fzOSAkwaw3pI/s1600/Picture+041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDyzauKWT6SyNJn-Tp6jxmU1dqK77_VBpjp6RHEn301iG_KJ8lMznKSRSQmpvgpjFNEJoxY1AJTEjmPJuC1iB6ANBrIz_iiX3eT9He57ZpQmhHIatygtejMJc35TkEdP3fzOSAkwaw3pI/s320/Picture+041.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Although, this stuff stinks for awhile, the smell does eventually go away. I also purchased some wire to be the frame for the wreath. BUT, this wire didn't work at all, it was totally too flimsy and wouldn't hold the burlap. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnb6XBschMYqYcjOPSyqU6bO2bdlI_ZEMVF9YZWZjw9sZfjvlz4u1bpgGZtf2tkUFhtMFZrPC-ZujBwDOG27SrRE_MI7cjwug54gzSmQn3zloTMtg_6zyAq-OQ5HQdzVBdhWgZCkBa8Dc/s1600/Picture+040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnb6XBschMYqYcjOPSyqU6bO2bdlI_ZEMVF9YZWZjw9sZfjvlz4u1bpgGZtf2tkUFhtMFZrPC-ZujBwDOG27SrRE_MI7cjwug54gzSmQn3zloTMtg_6zyAq-OQ5HQdzVBdhWgZCkBa8Dc/s320/Picture+040.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is what it looked like when I was using the wire. I just threaded the wire through the burlap, flipping back and forth with the material. You can already see there is no shape. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj93dorYRChwcG40Si0x5BIkZVpPl4uh_x3OZlWceSP40dOjRqJD4RzeqrfpjPcpDYhcgsEv1_9natqGe-t_F0sqDRoUHJ4FteNWahO4QUIhGha5vr8emOJdz00wrwyPpoYQ3pK9dt7vpk/s1600/Picture+042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj93dorYRChwcG40Si0x5BIkZVpPl4uh_x3OZlWceSP40dOjRqJD4RzeqrfpjPcpDYhcgsEv1_9natqGe-t_F0sqDRoUHJ4FteNWahO4QUIhGha5vr8emOJdz00wrwyPpoYQ3pK9dt7vpk/s320/Picture+042.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since this wire didn't work, I had scratch that and we decided to use a hanger. The hanger had several perks. 1) It was much stronger than the Floral Wire. 2) It was free because we are the proud owners of a thousand hangers. 3) We didn't have to leave the house. <br />
<br />
If at first you don't succeed, try try again. <br />

<br />
Cute, right? I used the handy glue gun to tack some areas into place. (For the crochet clutch, yes, I own a glue gun!)<br />
<br />
So, I added a bright bow and it was done. I think it turned out pretty nice. <br />

P.S. - Michael's has some really cute stuff right now for Christmas.The Renovatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00329323198108091761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-311068236079018029.post-27134524781588230962011-11-15T07:47:00.001-05:002011-11-15T08:17:39.447-05:00Using Wood Pallets as Wall Art - Part 2So last week I was looking for inspiration on what to do with my make shift wooden pallet. (You can read about that <a href="http://bachelorpadreno.blogspot.com/2011/11/using-wooden-pallets-as-wall-art.html">here</a>) After we tossed around a few ideas we decided to go with the children's song, "I see the Moon, the Moon sees Me." I remember my Grandmother singing this song to me when I was a little girl. <br />
<br />
So in order to install the new artwork, I installed just your standard picture framing hardware. The package comes with these super tiny nails so it is near impossible to nail them in and hold them at the same time, hence the reason why the hardware is installed crooked. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIKjox4w_hyphenhyphen1kuybYyUz_wsqw2iVHjcHU5ybxMAcT0rAux5P6DXLisDhr4E9iGPyWniJBLHpogipxH8bDZGtTfpSaIq5W98q2VhyZu6PELcHEjMxFmTvdSsOsVKKavWHEwD-Rm6KK9gY/s1600/Picture+053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIKjox4w_hyphenhyphen1kuybYyUz_wsqw2iVHjcHU5ybxMAcT0rAux5P6DXLisDhr4E9iGPyWniJBLHpogipxH8bDZGtTfpSaIq5W98q2VhyZu6PELcHEjMxFmTvdSsOsVKKavWHEwD-Rm6KK9gY/s320/Picture+053.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is my wonderful boyfriend installing it for me. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This only took two tries.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
So before I moved in, this is what the Living Room typically looked like. Standard sectional, which we still have. There were vertical metal blinds that were original to the home, uck!. And of course what guy doesn't use TV Trays...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvOAl1uLGM7dwcnz-EXWz3pKKbONp9OCHpxBmhVIgQXRgT_poLAdVJLs5a01cd1IG8cntEM7mUzAMdmT3gU6YdGEMMvk6cTcGaQR0mLiKcDgwnkxojhfecJax8-opYU4L5te5fs5PPEMA/s1600/Picture+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvOAl1uLGM7dwcnz-EXWz3pKKbONp9OCHpxBmhVIgQXRgT_poLAdVJLs5a01cd1IG8cntEM7mUzAMdmT3gU6YdGEMMvk6cTcGaQR0mLiKcDgwnkxojhfecJax8-opYU4L5te5fs5PPEMA/s320/Picture+008.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Although it is still a work in progress, the living room is getting better. Here is a partial shot of the living room now with the new art work. (The coffee table was crazy messy with the paper and magazines)<br />

Ultimately we want to fill up this wall with a collage of things. I am on the lookout for a ceramic animal head of some sort among some other things. <br />

Here is a close up. <br />

The paint is a faint lime green from Benjamin Moore in Semi-Gloss. I used a 1/2" brush to write the letters. The stain was the standard Minwax in Dark Walnut, I love this color. For awhile the blank area of the steps was screaming at me that it needed something. I used some liquid nails and stuck this applique to the area and just painted it the same color as our trim. <br />

</div>
In our home, we have Recessed Lighting in random areas throughout. This lighting was new when our home was built in the 90's. You know the ones that have a huge diameter with a plastic black interior. They drive me crazy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRCda7_p_CJbW8vhYgtxkDtyNZ-ofCQCB8tpLzx00wF1yShNTLlOgT5f1KYF49-1hLp-yFv2d1oXVoqRKFj-qF6YIMOZ9GQdWnlVKkc1nl-ImBJOjAFDqAZLS7and5uzlGLAOa3OnVweA/s1600/Picture+033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRCda7_p_CJbW8vhYgtxkDtyNZ-ofCQCB8tpLzx00wF1yShNTLlOgT5f1KYF49-1hLp-yFv2d1oXVoqRKFj-qF6YIMOZ9GQdWnlVKkc1nl-ImBJOjAFDqAZLS7and5uzlGLAOa3OnVweA/s320/Picture+033.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The black interiors really stand out on our white ceilings. Every time we went to the Hardware Store I couldn't remember how big the plastic can / housing part was so I could replace in white. So I said forget with that and I just sprayed paint the interior plastic part.<br />

I typically always use Rustoleum spray paint, no particular reason why, that's just what I always use. By the way if you don't use one of those $3 hand sprayers, you have got to get one. They are awesome. They really help with an even spray and they don't make your finger cramp. <br />

She wanted something a little more creative than just hanging them in frames. In addition, she wanted to make them interchangeable I have seen them in so many different ways.<br />
<br />
Like this cool banner from Design*Sponge.<br />

Personally, I just tend to jam them in the edges of my mirrors until I get tired of looking at them and then I file them away for my keepsakes. <br />
<br />
We decided that we would build a frame with some wire that we could use a clothespin to hold them on. We built the frame using 2x2 boards. <br />

She had a couple requests, one that it needed to hold about 30 postcards and she wanted it painted a burnt orange. I already owned a orange color paint at home from when we painted our laundry room. It isn't <i>burnt</i> orange but at least it is in the orange family. <br />
<br />
Then we used eye hooks at the end where we tied the wire into the frame. You have to pull the wire super hard to get it straight. Of course once it's get bent, it is never going straight again. <br />

He had to go for work on Friday so I just tagged along and we made a weekend of it. We had so much fun. I just love the historic parts of Charleston. <br />

When we woke up on Saturday, they had a farmer's market going on in the square right outside of our hotel. It was perfect! There was at least 50 different vendors. The fresh vegetables were amazing and HUGE. We live on the Chesapeake Bay and our Farmer's Market Season ended in October. They also have so many people selling different crafts. I had no way of getting anything home on the plane otherwise I could have gone broke there. </div>

I have seen people use them to hang pictures on. I have seen objects or words painted on them. I have even seen them used as furniture, which reminds me of when I used to sleep on a futon in college. <br />
<br />
The wall area above our couch is fairly large and in desperate need of something. I would like to have a pallet with writing on it, an inspiration saying or multiple phrases. I saw some examples in <a href="https://www.onekingslane.com/all-sales">One Kings Lane</a> and Pottery Barn. What do you think about this one from One Kings Lane, I like it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We were able to recreate the one above with some 1x2's and wood shims. My bf put most of this together for me. I attempted to use the nail gun again. In the past, I have not had much luck with the nail gun. I get more nails popping out in different directions than straight. Given this was suppose to have a rustic look, it worked out. I stained it a dark walnut color because I already had some that I have used in other projects. Also, I switched the direction because I think it will work better in our space if it was horizontal. <br />
<br />

<br />
So here is my home made wooden pallet. Now if I can just get some inspiration.<br />
